CFL Playoff Picks, Eastern Conference: Tiger-Cats vs. Alouettes

The Montreal Alouettes find themselves in unfamiliar territory this week as they play host to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Eastern Conference semi-finals. It’s the first time Montreal has taken part in Round 1 of the playoffs since 2007 and just the their third semi-final appearance since 2001

HAMILTON TIGER-CATS AT MONTREAL ALOUETTES
Sportsbetting.ag CFL Odds: Als -5.5, Over/Under 55

Montreal’s domination of the East came to an end this year as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers claimed the top spot in the division. This is the fifth meeting between these teams in 2011 and the home side won all four games straight-up with Hamilton going 3-1 ATS.

Both teams struggled down the stretch with the Als (10-8 SU) dropping three-straight games and the Cats (8-10 SU) losing two in a row against non-playoff teams. Hamilton can’t seem to figure out who their starting QB is from week to week and that’s not a good sign for team that was 1-6 SU in its past seven road games. Hamilton has not won a game straight-up in Montreal since 2002 but this Alouettes squad has been out of rhythm, losing its past six games against the number.

BetRepublic.com CFL Picks were 17-8 ATS this season for a profitable .680 winning percentage. Follow us on Twitter for updates on the BR Best Bets including the Western Conference Semi-Final between the Stampeders and Eskimos

QB Anthony Calvillo has appeared very un-Calvillo like throwing for just 63 yards in his last outing against the Lions. Throughout his career, Calvillo has consistently been able to find another gear when playoff time comes around and with three Grey Cup rings, we won’t count him out but laying points this season with the Als was a sure ticket to the poor house (6-12 ATS).

CFL PICKS
All four meetings between these teams finished with more than 55 combined points and overall scoring margins were nearly identical. Home field advantage and playoff experience have us leaning towards Montreal but the total looks more appealing.
Pick: Take the Over
