The National League Central standings look a lot different than at this time last year but one thing hasn’t changed; the St. Louis Cardinals are still in second place as playoff hopes fade a little more each day.
Milwaukee is in St. Louis for the final game of a three-game series Wednesday and each side has taken one contest, which suits the Brewers just fine. Milwaukee is 40-16 since the first week of July and Tuesday’s 4-2 loss was the first of their current six-game road trip which concludes today.

Albert Pujols (.293) leads the Cardinals with 34 home runs and 85 RBI
Up next for the Brewers (85-58, .594) is a four-game home series vs. the Philadelphia Phillies (90-48, .652) that could determine this year’s National League champ.
HOME GROWN
Brewers right-hander Zack Greinke (14-5, 4.00 ERA) has put up Cy Young-like numbers at home this season but his 11 road starts show a 4-5 record with a 5.31 ERA. 9-of-11 games went over the total and his past 23 starts overall have produced 16 overs, 5 unders and 2 pushes.
MLB PICKS
Chris Carpenter (8-9, 3.92 ERA) starts for the Cardinals today and Sportsbetting.ag has listed St. Louis (-110, O/U 7.5 UN -130) as a small home favorite. Home plate umpire DJ Reyburn has called games heavily to the under this season (7-17 O/U) but he’s also been a big homer ump, including six-of-eight games between these teams since 2009. In a low scoring game, we like the Cardinals to come out ahead.
Pick: Take the Cardinals
