India v England T20
Eden gardens, Kolkata, 2pm (UK time)
Poor old England! Where did it all go wrong? In September they smashed India 3-0 in an ODI series in England, having whipped them 4-0 in the summer Test series. Just a month later it has all gone pear-shaped and India have exacted their revenge on home soil by giving England an awe-inspiring 5-0 drubbing in their ODI series.
Today they play their opponent in a T20 match that will be England's last game of the year. Some of their players including Jonathan Trott and Alastair Cook have gone home already, so it will be up to inexperienced players such as Alex Hales and Jos Butler to see if they can make an impact.
It is somewhat ironic that England are the world champions in this format of the game and the number one ranked side in the world. So, at a best-priced 6/4 (with Blue Square) we should be having a plunge, shouldn't we? Er...no. The reason I will not be touching England with a barge-pole today is that they have hardly played any T20 matches on the sub-continent. Add to this the manner in which they were beaten by India in the ODI series, and you can see why even at this price we just can't get involved.
Another compelling reason why India should once again beat England here is that there is a good chance the pitch at Kolkata today will turn for the Indian spinners. Given how useless the England batsmen have been at dealing with spin all this month I imagine this could again be problematic for England. I think the 1.71 available on Betfair for India to win this match is worth taking.
So who is going to score India's runs today? It is difficult to get away from Virat Kohli after he top scored for India in the ODI series but I am going to have a flutter on Suresh Raina. He is really The Man when it comes to T20 and has racked up 425 runs in his last 12 matches. At 4/1 I have to be involved.
BR Betting Advice:
Back India at 1.71 on Betfair
Back Suresh Raina to be Top India Batsman at 4/1 (general)
