The Formula One teams roll into Abu Dhabi this weekend knowing that they have just this race and the race in Brazil in two weeks time and despite Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull having wrapped up the drivers and constructors titles already McLaren and Ferrari will be looking to end the season on a high note. Can they do so with a pole position in Abu Dhabi? Friday practice threw up the same kind of results as usual, however the Red Bull cars were not fastest as they normally are. Jenson Button was fastest in the first practice session and his McLaren team mate Lewis Hamilton was quickest in the second practice session, underlining the improvements that they have made to their car at the end of the season. Jenson Button has shown that McLaren are almost equal to Red Bull as he has collected six podium finishes in his last seven races, with the other finish being a fourth place in Korea. McLaren, especially Button, are in excellent form but can they claim pole in Abu Dhabi?
Lewis Hamilton seems to enjoy the track as he took pole in the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2009 and he started on the front row last season besides the pole sitter Sebastian Vettel. He has vowed to put his poor season behind him and being as he is the only non-Red Bull driver to sit on pole this season, he will feel confident going into Saturday’s qualifying session.
He will also take more confidence following the issues that both Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso encountered in Friday practice. The Red Bull and Ferrari drivers both hit issues in the first corner and ended up in the barriers and, while neither incident was a massive crash, the McLaren drivers will be heartened by these mistakes and it will also set back the German and Spaniard set up and development time over the weekend.
Both Vettel and Alonso are good enough drivers to overcome their setbacks, but we feel that the McLaren drivers have the speed and skill to take pole and that one of the two drivers will do so. Over one lap Lewis Hamilton appears to have the advantage over his fellow English team mate and we can see Hamilton claiming his second pole of the season and second pole in Abu Dhabi at the Yas Marina circuit this weekend.
Betting Tips Recommendation:
We are backing Lewis Hamilton to take pole position each way @ 3.75 (e/w section pays @ 1.92) with Bet365.com.
