England v Bangladesh - 1st ODI

England v Bangladesh – First One Day International:

The bookmakers think this match is going to be one way traffic, and William Hill make England the 1/9 favourites to claim victory in this fifty over format of the game ahead of 11/2 for the Bangladeshis. Can England live up to the billing as massive favourites?

England warmed up for this series by playing a five game ODI series against Australia between the end of June and the beginning of July. England impressed in the first three matches, winning all three games, however once they had secured the series win they proceeded to lose the following two matches to a resurgent Australian side. Despite Bangladesh not being as good as the Australian side they will still prove to be a threat for the English with Tamim Iqbal showing what he can do when he knocked 100’s against England in both of the Test matches the sides played prior to England’s series against Australia. England easily defeated Bangladesh in both games, with an eight wicket victory in the first match at Lords and winning by an innings and eighty runs at Old Trafford several days later. Bangladesh are a better side in the shorter form of the game and they will not be beaten so easily in Nottingham, but can they go one better and claim a win against the odds?

Since playing those two test matches against England, Bangladesh have been busy with playing in the Asia Cup and playing against Sussex and Middlesex on their return to English shores. All of these matches were fifty over ODI matches and Bangladesh were defeated in four of the five games. At the Asia Cup they were beaten by six wickets against India, before losing by 126 and 139 runs to Sri Lanka and Pakistan after that. On their return to England the Bangladeshis managed less than twenty-nine overs against Sussex as they fell to a 149 run defeat, however they managed to record their second win in 2010 against Middlesex. Can they record a second win in a row by beating England at Trent Bridge?

I’m with the bookies on this one – England should easily win this match. Bangladesh are a poor side and England will be full of confidence after beating Australia 3-2 in the ODI series. But where is some betting value in this match? As mentioned earlier Tamim Iqbal knocked 100’s against England in the test matches and I feel that he could be a handful for England again in this match. As a result i’m going to be backing Tamim Iqbal to be Bangladesh’s top batsman at 5/2 with PaddyPower.com.
