Key men
There is no doubt that Pakistan are going to have to be at their brilliant best to deny Australia a shot at England in the final of the World Twenty20 final. The Aussies have been a smidgen more impressive than England, and that is some boast.
Pakistan’s followers will hope that Shahid Afridi, Salman Butt and Mohammaed Aamer can produce something special. They may be forlorn hopes.
We have been waiting all tournament for Afridi to produce. He gets a 5-6 quote from Bet365 on the player performance market (1pt per run, 10 per catch, 20 per wkt) for 35 or more. He is averaging 31. On the spreads, Extrabet go as high as 42-46.
Butt, Pakistan’s top runscorer with 191, gets a 25-29 quote from Extrabet while Aamer, the impressive young fast man, is 5-6 for 23 or more points with Bet365. He is averaging bang on 23.
Most punters will be desperate to get with Australia master blasters David Warner and Shane Watson in any way possible. Warner is 5-6 to outscore Watson with BlueSq. Watson is 8-13 for 38 perf points or more with Bet365. Check out BlueSq and 888Sport’s man of the match prices, too. Watson is 8-1 and Afridi 10-1.
Where should I put my money?
Unfortunately there is no toss bias to help us out at Gros Islet. Five from nine have been won by the side batting second and that is not a strong enough ratio to back up a wager on massive outsiders Pakistan.
The world champs are as big 2-1 (Bet365, VC) with Australia no better than 4-9 (Skybet, Betfred, Stan James, Extrabet). It is fair enough. Australia look pretty unbeatable, the pitch should suit them and if not, Pakistan ahve the ability to shoot themselves in the foot.
But should a side with so many game changers be so big? Are they genuinely 2-1 pokes to play better than Australia for just 40 overs. No. There’s not much in it and the firms that have gone 7-4 are probably right.
Extras
Dirk Nannes, who has four more wickets than teammate Shaun Tait, is 11-4 with BlueSq, 888Sport to be top Aussie bowler. Tait is 7-2.
