Sevilla v Sporting Braga:
Braga lead this tie 1-0 at the halfway stage after a narrow victory in Portugal last week. Can Sevilla put in a good performance at home to book their spot in the group stage of the Champions League or will it be their Portuguese rivals that progress? William Hill make Sevilla the 1.36 favourites to win this second leg of the tie, with Braga available at 9.00 and the draw can be backed at odds of 4.50, but will the game go according to those odds?
Both of these sides have put in some good performances on home soil, but have been poor away from home. Sevilla defeated Barcelona 3-1 in the first leg of the Spanish Super Copa final, but they have lost the two away games since then – 1-0 to Braga and 4-0 to Barcelona in the second leg follow up. Braga have beaten Sevilla (1-0) and Celtic (3-0) in the Champions League as well as beating Portimonense 3-1 in the Portuguese league at home this season, but they have lost 2-1 to Celtic and drawn 0-0 with Vitória Setúbal in the league on the road this year. Will there be a change in Sevilla’s home form and Braga’s away record in this match?
I can’t see there being a change in both side’s form and I expect to see Sevilla chalk up a big enough win to be able to progress to the group stages without issue. I’ll be backing Sevilla to win by more than one goal in this game at odds of 2.00 and Sevilla to win the match to nil also at odds of 2.00 with PaddyPower.com.
Sampdoria v Werder Bremen:
After conceding three goals in and having a player red-carded in eighteen second half minutes, Sampdoria first leg tie went from holding their own to facing elimination in no time. However, they got an injury time away goal to put a slight shine on the result and give themselves a chance to progress to the group stages of the Champions League. Can they win the game by at least two goals, assuming that they can prevent Bremen from scoring, and reach the Champions League for the first time since 1992?
William Hill make Sampdoria the favourites to win this second leg of the tie at odds of 2.20, with both Werder Bremen and the draw available at 3.30. Will Sampdoria be good enough at home to turn this tie around?
Sampdoria went unbeaten at home in Serie A last season, winning thirteen and drawing six of their nineteen home league matches. While their domestic season does not kick off until this weekend they will still be a major threat in front of their own fans and Werder Bremen will need to get an away goal to give themselves some breathing room. Will they be able to though? Bremen kicked off their Bundesliga campaign with a 4-1 drubbing away from home at the hands of Hoffenheim. Can they bounce back from that performance and get themselves into the group stages of Europe’s premier football competition?
I feel that with their excellent home performance that Sampdoria will take the victory over the ninety minutes, but I’m not sure that the game won’t go to extra time. My money is on the Sampdoria win at odds of 2.20 and there to be more than 2.5 goals in the game at odds of 1.65 with William Hill.

• Sampdoria to beat Werder Bremen @ 2.20
