Wednesday's Champions League Betting

Tottenham Hotspur v Young Boys:

The first leg of this tie last week saw Spurs start incredibly slowly and be 3-0 down with just thirty minutes on the clock in Switzerland. They dragged it back to 3-2 by full time, but they could have, and really should have, been out of the tie except for a couple of glaring misses by Young Boys. However, they have a great chance of making it to the group stage of the Champions League for the first time ever.

PaddyPower.com make Spurs the 1.22 favourites to win this second leg tie at White Hart Lane, with Young Boys available at 13.00 and the draw can be backed at 6.00. Will Spurs dominate the Swiss side at home on their non-artificial pitch so much that they deserve those odds?

Spurs have played three previous competitive games so far this season and they have racked up one win, one draw and one loss. The loss came on the road against Young Boys and the win was controversially attained away from home at Stoke at the weekend, yet their best performance of the season came in the 0-0 draw on the opening day of the season against Manchester City at home with just Joe Hart preventing Spurs from collecting all three points. Another performance like that will see Spurs in the Champions League by half time. Young Boys have performed well away from home recently, and have beaten both Fenerbache and Grasshoppers on the road in recent weeks, but I expect them to bid farewell to the Champions League after this game.

My money is on Spurs to dominate the game and i’m backing Spurs to win both halves of football at odds of 2.50 and more than 3.5 goals to be scored in the game at odds of 2.25 with PaddyPower.com.

Ajax v Dynamo Kiev:

This tie stands at 1-1 after an eventful first leg match that saw that game spring to life in the second half with two goals and a sending off within the first twenty-five minutes of the restart. Ajax have the advantage with the away goal but can they finish off Dynamo Kiev in front of their own fans? William Hill make Ajax the 1.83 favourites to finish the job with a win within normal time, with Dynamo Kiev available at odds of 4.00 and the draw can be backed at 3.75.

Under the management of former Spurs manager Martin Jol, Ajax have the ability to win this tie and they are a very good side at home and have not lost at home since Juventus defeated them 2-1 in February. Their record this season so far has seen a draw in the last round of Champions League qualifiers against PAOK of Greece and two wins in the league that has seen them score seven goals. Kiev have three wins, a draw and a loss in their five matches on the road this season, with the loss coming in their last away game. That game was just three days before the first leg tie of this match and they have failed to win any games since that point. Can they change it around here and progress to the Champions League?

I expect the game to be close, but I feel that Ajax are just good enough to claim the home victory to see them into the Champions League. My money is on Ajax to win the game at odds at 1.83 with both sides to score at odds of 1.60 with William Hill.
