NBA
Series tied 3-3.
Next game Thursday: Lakers – 7, 187
The favorite in this series is 4-2 ATS.
In the end, it wouldn’t matter that the Sterns gifted the Lakers twice as many free throws as the Celtics because it wasn’t necessary – Boston played itself out of another championship title with abysmal shooting. Even the Laker’s collegiate-like thirteen point fourth quarter couldn’t help the Celtics, not after they themselves had already put up a thirteen point second quarter, along with an eighteen point first and sixteen point fourth.
Four quarters of less than twenty points? This series hardly qualifies as professional basketball, much less championship quality professional basketball.
With the twenty-three point win, the Lakers force a game seven and give Commissioner David Stern his dream come true.
LA is now 10-1 SU at home at the Staples Center this post season.
Boston is 4-0 in game sevens versus LA.
MLB
Tampa Bay took game one from the Braves in their series of first place teams, conceding no ground to the Yankees who beat Doc Halladay and the Phillies. San Diego beat the Blue Jays to maintain possession of first place as the Dodgers remained a half game out after beating the Reds. The Cincinnati loss enabled the Cardinals, who beat Seattle, to move into a tie for first with the Reds.
The Orioles won and are now just five games removed from removing the title of worst team in baseball as their record shows five more losses than the team they are chasing, Pittsburgh.
Today’s best matchup features Kershaw, 6-3, vs. Leake, 5-0, as LA looks to make it two in a row against the Reds.
Soccer

The Orioles have won one straight.
BAD BEAT of the day: Good thing a wager on Zambrano at home does not require the big bucks it has in the past as Cubbie Baseball was in rare form last night. It wasn’t a high price and it wasn’t a blown save in the ninth, but the Bad Beat Award goes to Cub bettors, as Chicago committed a season-high four errors, including two in one inning by gold glove first baseman Lee, who first booted a simple ground ball and on the next play dropped a throw from shortstop Castro. Cubbie fans, veteran soldiers in the war of ineptitude, still have their sense of humor – after committing the two errors Lee was cheered sarcastically after he successfully caught a toss from second baseman Theriot after a grounder to second.
