NCAA Featured game for Saturday, February 13th, 2010: Maryland @ Duke

Line: Duke -9.5, total is 147 1/2

Records:

Maryland: 16-6 SU; 10-7 ATS; 5-1 ATS on the road; 3-1 as an away underdog.

Duke: 20-4 SU; 15-8 ATS; 9-3 as a home favorite; 11-4 ATS as a double digit favorite.

Recent history: Last season

1/24/09 - Duke 85, Maryland 44, in N. Carolina; line: Duke -15, 142

2/25/09 - Duke 78 Maryland 27 in Maryland; line: Duke -6, 145

3/14/09 - Duke 67 Maryland 61, in NC; line: Duke – 9, 140

Injuries:
Duke starting forward, Lance Thomas (5.7 PPG, 4.9 rebounds), doubtful.

While Maryland has proven capable away from home, rewarding bettors with a 3-1 ATS record as road dogs, none of the four teams they faced have been in the top 10, as Duke is.

Of note:

Extra incentive? Saturday is Blue Devil’s coach Mike Krzyzewski’s birthday and 1,000th game at Duke.

This game features the top two offenses in the ACC. Do not let this make you automatically bet the over, as the bookies are aware of this fact, too, and it has been factored into today’s total (this number is higher than all three games last year.) And the last four in this series have all stayed under the total.

Due to snowstorms, Maryland has their last game cancelled. The second best offense in the ACC has been off for 6 days, will they start the game flat? On the road, at Duke, the team that KO’d them from the conference tournament last year, it is unlikely.

Opinion: Grab the 9.5 points, and go with second place Maryland to take advantage of Lance Thomas’s absence in the middle of the court, with a combination of pounding it in the paint and accurate outside shooting (the Terps shoot 48% average, to Duke’s 45%.)
