ATP Rogers Cup - Final Betting

Andy Murray v Roger Federer:

The world number four takes on the new world number two in their twelfth meeting for the title of the 2010 ATP Rogers Cup champion. William Hill make Murray the 1.80 favourite, with Federer available at odds of 1.91. Who will become the champion?

Murray has been playing some impressive tennis in Toronto this week, with his 6-2, 6-2 win over David Nalbandian, who was on an eleven game unbeaten run, in the Quarter Finals impressive, but not as impressive as the 6-3, 6-4 straight sets defeat of world number one Rafael Nadal in the Semi Finals. That was Murray’s fifth win over Nadal in twelve games and he will be confident of retaining the title he won in Toronto last year.

Federer has not been as impressive as Murray this week, but he finds himself in the hunt for his third Rogers Cup title – his first since his 2006 win. He has gone to three sets in his Semi Final match against Novak Djokovic and his Quarter Final game against Tomas Berdych. Both of these were very good performances, but they have highlighted that Federer is no longer the player that he once was. This season, it appears that time is catching up with the Swiss legend and, while he used to be the equal of Rafael Nadal, he no longer appears invincible and he has lost that unbeatable aura. Having said this, he is still exceptionally talented and stands an excellent chance of winning this match. Can he do so though?

Murray leads Federer 6-5 after their previous eleven matchups, and all eleven meetings have come on hard courts. These two players have met just once in 2010 – in the final of the Australian Open – and Roger Federer took a straight sets win in that game six months ago. He also won the final two of the four matches between these two in 2009. Can he make it four wins in a row? With the form that Murray has been in this week, I do not think so. I feel that Murray will retain his title in Toronto, so my money will be on Andy Murray to win at odds of 1.80 with William Hill. I’m expecting this match not to go on for too long so i’m going to have a wager on under 23.5 games at odds of 1.80 with PaddyPower.com.
