ATP Rogers Cup - Quarter Final Betting

David Nalbandian v Andy Murray:

Despite Andy Murray being the fourth seed and Nalbandian being unseeded, PaddyPower.com make the Argentine the 1.73 favourite, with Murray available at 2.05. Will Murray be able to upset the odds to make progress?

Nalbandian has put in some excellent performances in Toronto so far and he has beaten the tenth and fifth seeds on his way to the Quarter Finals. Nalbandian eliminated tenth seed David Ferrer in the first round in three sets before defeating Tommy Robredo in round two 6-3, 6-0. In round three he defeated fifth seed Robin Soderling after coming from a set down to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Nalbandian’s win over Soderling was his eleventh successive victory. Can he continue in this excellent form to book a place in the last four?

Murray has played just two matches so far, beaten Xavier Malisse in round two with a routine 7-5, 6-2 win and then beating fifteenth seed Gael Monfils 6-2, 0-6, 6-3. Apart from the second set slump against Monfils Murray has been in good form on the Canadian Hard Courts. However, Murray has never beaten Nalbandian in their two previous meetings with the Argentine winning at Wimbledon in 2005 and on a hard court in Paris in 2008. The match at Wimbledon went to five sets, but Nalbandian won in Paris in straight sets, can he do so again?

After winning his last eleven matches, Nalbandian deserves to the favourite for this match and my money is on him winning his twelfth straight game against Murray. Back a Nalbandian win @ 1.73 with PaddyPower.com.

Rafael Nadal v Philipp Kohlschreiber:

This match sees the world number one take on the world number thirty-seven, with Nadal looking to claim a seventh straight victory over the German in their seventh ever match. William Hill make Nadal the 1.08 favourite to win the game ahead of Kohlschreiber, who is available at odds of 7.00. Can Kohlschreiber take his first ever win against the Spaniard?

After getting a bye in the first round, Nadal has won his second and third round games without dropping a set. However, Nadal has been brought to a tie-break in both games against Stanislas Wawrinka in round two and qualifier Kevin Anderson in round three. Kohlschreiber had an easy start to the tournament after his first round opponent Janko Tipsarevic retired after four games in the first set. Things got harder for the German as he was brought to three sets in his next two games as he beat Victor Troicki 6-4, 3-6, 6-0 and Yen-Hsun Lu 6-7, 7-5, 6-0 to book his place in the final eight against Nadal.

Can Kohlschreiber progress any further than this point? Unfortunately for the German, I cannot see this happening and I feel that he will struggle to win a set against Nadal. As a result I will be backing a straight sets win for Nadal @ 1.29 with PaddyPower.com.

Tomas Berdych v Roger Federer:

This match sees the seventh and third seeds meet for the third time in 2010, with third seed Federer looking to claim his first win of the year over the Czech player. Can he claim that victory in Canada? William Hill make Federer the favourite to win the match at odds of 1.40, with Berdych available at odds 2.75.

As seeded players, both Berdych and Federer received first round byes and since then both players have looked impressive to reach this point. Berdych defeated Sergiy Stakhovsky 6-2, 6-4 before booking his match against Federer with a 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 win over upcoming Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov. Federer has not dropped a set in his two matches, although he was brought to a tie break in both matches against Juan Ignacio Chela (7-6, 6-3) and Michael Llodra (7-6, 6-3).

This match between Berdych and Federer is their twelve meeting and Federer holds an 8-3 lead from their previous games. Berdych won their first meeting at the 2004 Olympics but Federer won the next eight meetings between 2005 and 2009 inclusive. However, Federer has lost both meetings in 2010 to Berdych, including a meeting on the hard courts of Miami. Federer has looked good in Toronto so far, but Berdych is in a different league to Juan Ignacio Chela and Michael Llodra. I feel that Berdych will complete a hat-trick of wins over Federer in 2010 in this game, so I am backing the upset @ 2.75 with William Hill.

Jeremy Chardy v Novak Djokovic:

This match sees the world number seventy-two face the world number two for a place in the last four of the Rogers Cup in Toronto, with William Hill making Djokovic the 1.29 favourite to progress ahead of the Chardy at odds of 3.50. Will we see an upset in this clash?

Serbian Djokovic has had the easier journey to this point of the tournament following his first round bye and his two straight set victories over Julien Benneteau (7-5, 7-5) and Victor Hanescu (6-3, 6-4) barely causing him to break into a sweat. Chardy, however, has played three matches so far and his first two games saw him go to three sets against Marcos Baghdatis (7-5, 2-6, 7-6) and ninth seed Fernando Verdasco (6-7, 7-6, 6-2). However, he found his feet in the third round as he defeated sixth seed Nikolay Davydenko 6-3, 6-2 to face the second seed for a place in the Semi Finals. Can Chardy get his first ever win against Djokovic?

These two players have met on four previous occasions, with all four coming in 2009 and 2010, and Djokovic has won all four matches. All three times the faced each other in 2009 came on hard courts with Djokovic winning in straight sets. Their meeting this year came on the clay court in Rome, but this also ended in a straight sets victory for Djokovic. However, after eliminating two seeded players on his way I feel that Chardy will put in a better performance this time around. Unfortunately, I cannot see him getting his first win but I will put money on him winning a set. Back Djokovic to win the match 2-1 @ 4.20 with William Hill.
