ATP Rogers Cup - Semi Final Betting

Rafael Nadal v Andy Murray:

This match sees the world number one take on the world number four and defending ATP Rogers Cup champion, but will it be Nadal or Murray who plays in the final? PaddyPower.com make Nadal the favourite to progress at odds of 1.57 with Murray available at 2.25 despite Murray having the better of things in the Quarter Finals.

Murray defeated David Nalbandian to reach the final four despite being the outsider in that match following Nalbandian having gone eleven games without defeat. However, Murray was on form from the first game of the match and he ran out a 6-2, 6-2 winner to end the Argentine’s winning run. Nadal, however, dropped his first set of the tournament as he ran out a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 winner against German Philipp Kohlschreiber. Nadal started poorly and Kohlschreiber did well to win the first set, but Nadal settled for sets two and three and eased to victory. Will he get away with playing that poorly against Murray?

This match will be the twelfth meeting between Nadal and Murray, with Nadal holding an 8-3 advantage over the Scottish player. They have met twice in 2010 with Murray progressing at the Australian Open after Nadal retired and then Nadal defeated Murray at the Wimbledon Semi Finals in straight sets. The two have played each other on hard courts on seven occasions, with things fairly even and Nadal holds a 4-3 lead on this scorecard. However, all Murray’s wins against Nadal have come on hard courts, but can he claim another win today?

Both players have had poor moments in the tournament so far, but of the two Nadal has been consistent this year and I expect him to win this match, but with Murray to make a go of it. It should be a good game and I foresee a 2-1 Nadal victory. Back this outcome at odds of 3.75 with PaddyPower.com.

Roger Federer v Novak Djokovic:

The world number three takes on the world number two for the second final spot at the Rogers Cup, but who will triumph in the fifteenth meeting between these two players? William Hill make Federer the 1.67 favourite, with Djokovic available at odds of 2.10 to defeat the player ranked one place below him in the ATP rankings. Will we see an upset in this match?

Federer overcame Tomas Berdych for the first time in three meetings in 2010 in the last round with a 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 victory. However, it was far from a vintage performance by the Swiss legend and at one stage he trailed Berdych 5-2 in the final set but pulled it together to win on a tie-breaker by 7-5 to book his spot in the final four. Will he be able to defeat Djokovic in this match? Djokovic has looked good so far and has not dropped a set in his three matches so far, with his 6-2, 6-3 defeat of Jeremy Chardy in the Quarter Finals very impressive. Chardy had already defeated ninth seed Fernando Verdasco and sixth seed Nikolay Davydenko to reach the final eight, but Djokovic completely outclassed him to stroll to victory. Can Djokovic progress to the final against Federer?

Of the fourteen previous matches between these two players, Federer has taken nine wins to Djokovic’s five. They have not met in 2010 but in 2009 they faced each other on five occasions, with Djokovic winning three of the five games. They have played on hard courts eleven times and Federer has won seven of those matches. However, Roger Federer in 2010 has not been playing as well as he played in the past and I feel that Federer will lose this match. As a result I suggest backing Novak Djokovic to win the game at odds of 2.25 with PaddyPower.com.
