Wimbledon Betting - Men's Final

Tomas Berdych v Rafael Nadal:

William Hill, unsurprisingly, make the world number one the favourite to take his second Wimbledon title at odds of 3/10. His surprising opponent is available at odds of 5/2. Can Berdych upset the odds to take his first ever Grand Slam?

2010 is already Berdych’s best season ever as he reached the Semi Finals at the French Open in May and has progressed as far as the final of Wimbledon. Even if he does not win this match he has already surpassed what most people believed he would do at this tournament. In fact I predicted him to go out two matches ago when he faced Roger Federer in the Quarter Finals, but he took a win in four sets in that match. He followed that up with a straight sets victory over Novak Djokovic to book his place in the final. In winning his last two matches he has beaten the players ranked numbers three and two in the world, now can he defeat the player ranked number one?

After going to five sets in his second and third round matches, Nadal has looked fairly imperious since then. Just like Berdych, he has got better as the tournament has progressed and looked at his best as he defeated sixth seed Robin Soderling in four sets in the Quarter Finals and put the home favourite and fourth seed Andy Murray out in straight sets in the Semi Final match. Will the final see another top drawer performance from Nadal and see the second seed claim his second title?

Of their ten previous meetings, Nadal has taken seven wins compared to Berdych’s three victories. Berdych’s three wins came within the first four matches between the players and he has not beaten the Spaniard since the Tour Finals at the end of 2006. Can he overturn a six match, three and half year losing run? If there is any time that he can do so, it is this match. He has played better this week than he has done before now and he stands a chance. Despite beating the aging Federer and the inconsistent Djokovic prior to this match, Nadal is a completely different type of animal and I don’t feel that Berdych can win. I do see him taking at least a set from the match, so my money is on Nadal to win the match 3-1 @ 5/2 with PaddyPower.com.
