09:00 – France v New Zealand:
The pre-tournament favourites and hosts have made their way to the final in style, now all that stands in their way of them taking their second World Cup title is the French side. Can they lift the Webb Ellis trophy in front of their own fans for a second time? Bet365.com believe so as they make the Kiwis the big favourites and their France v New Zealand odds are as follows:
France odds – 8.00
Draw odds – 41.00
New Zealand odds – 1.11
This is the third World Cup final that France are participating in having competed for the Webb Ellis trophy in 1999 against Australia and 1987 against New Zealand at the same venue as today. On both occasions they were soundly beaten and being as they were beaten by 20 points by New Zealand in the group stages of this competition, can they upset the odds and claim their first ever title? It has seemed that France have had luck on their side in the tournament, their Semi Final defeat of Wales when Welsh captain Sam Warburton was red carded early on being a big help, and being as they are the last side to beat New Zealand at Eden Park and, along with South Africa, are the only side to beat the Kiwis in New Zealand in the last eight years. They have the ability, but can they put it all together and pull off one of the biggest shocks in world rugby?
New Zealand have been struggling with injuries throughout this tournament, but despite losing talisman Dan Carter several matches ago they have still appeared strong and have cruised through the tournament unbeaten, winning each match by at least two tries. They have already beaten France once in the tournament as they ran out 37-17 winners in the group stages and they appear to have no weaknesses as they marched onwards to the final. Can they record another victory and claim their second title?
They have won all of the last three meetings with France and should they score first in this match they will run riot against the French. Marc Lièvremont’s men have to attempt to stay in the game for as long as possible and hope that the weight of expectation and home pressure causes the Kiwis to make mistakes and allows them to capitalise on them. Unfortunately for Les Blues, we cannot see this happening and we’re backing New Zealand to stroll to victory in this match.
