Australian Open Bets: Day Three

Join BetRepublic.com for the best Australian Open bets as we preview four of the biggest games happening on Day Three of the year’s first Grand Slam at Melbourne Park.

Day Three of the Australian Open sees a host of world’s top players continue their campaign at Melbourne Park as the second round games get underway. We take a look at some of today’s biggest games and Australian Open Odds with Sportsbetting.com here.

Tommy Haas (12.00) v Rafael Nadal (1.04):

Sportsbetting.com have made Nadal the big favourite for to reach round three ahead of Tommy Haas as he’s won all of their four previous meetings without dropping a set against the Germany and he dropped just six games as he cruised past Alex Kuznetsov in the first round. Haas struggled past Denis Kudla in round one and was forced to win seven games in two of the four sets in the match.

With the form he’s started in and with his history over Haas Nadal is likely to easily beat Haas. We like Nadal -8.5 games v the German @ 1.63.

Andreas Beck (15.00) v Roger Federer (1.01):

This match sees the world 93 take on the world number three for a place in round three. Like the Haas v Nadal match, the minnow struggled to a four set win in his first match, while the big name eased to a straight sets victory. Beck was 6-4, 6-2 up on world number 96 Eric Prodon before losing the third set and then winning the final set 7-5 to book a meeting with the Swiss legend. Can he win this match though?

Federer defeated world 172 Alexander Kudryavtasev by ten games in his opening game and as he defeated Beck by eight games in their only meeting at the 2010 US Open, he’s a big favourite for this match. Federer should win the match easily and our money is on Federer 3-0 @ 1.24.

Kim Clijsters (1.03) v Stephanie Foretz Gacon (13.00):

Last year’s Australian Open winner needed just one set to settle into this year’s tournament as she defeated world number 223 Maria Joao Koehler 7-5, 6-1 to set up her first match against the French world number 107 in a decade. Clijsters won that match ten years ago 6-2, 6-3 but as Foretz Gacondefeated British number one Elena Baltacha 6-2, 6-4 in round one, will this match go so easily for the reigning champion?

We think so and we feel that Clijsters will stroll to victory over her French opponent in this game. The Belgian will likely put in a performance like her second set v Koehler in the first round and we are backing Clijsters -7.5 games @ 1.81.

Caroline Wozniacki (1.03) v Anna Tatishvili (13.00):

Both of these players upset the home support in their first matches as the world number one, Wozniacki, eliminated world 103 Anastasia Rodionova and Tatishvili knocked out Ashleigh Barty to make two less Australians in the tournament. Wozniacki impressed as she won 6-2, 6-1 while Tatishvili struggled to a 6-2, 7-6 victory over the world 670.

This match is the first meeting of these two and we feel that Wozniacki will ease through to the third round of the year’s first Grand Slam. Sportsbetting.com have the world number one at 1.17 to win the match in straight sets but, just like Clijsters, we think she’ll cover the handicap of 7.5 games and we like Wozniacki -7.5 games @ 1.79 on this match.
